Series cooking classes are a great way for couples to get some quality time without leaving the house, for old friends to catch up with a regularly scheduled activity, and oh, did I mention, the very best way to really learn how to cook?
Series classes are particularly good for those who have specific dietary requirement, a doctor or nutritionist-prescribed diet, or weight loss goals. As we work together and I learn more about you, your preferences, your cooking strengths and areas for improvement, I will hone our lessons to suit your needs.
Basic Cooking Skills
I'll introduce you to a few tools and tell you the truth about knives (you really don't need more than four). If you've got a microplane grater, we'll use it, if you don't, I'll tell you where to buy one. One thing I won't do is laugh at any "stupid" questions. Because there aren't any. But if you haven't touched raw chicken before, be ready to do it now.
In fact, get ready to toss food in your skillet like a restaurant chef, and get ready to laugh, to play, to stick your finger in the sauce and to season your food right. There will be no need to pass the salt at the table; the flavors will be vivid in your preparation.
The curriculum for the basics reviews the five basic cooking techniques:
- Knife Skills
- Roasting and Baking
- Grilling and Broiling
- Frying, Searing and Sautéing
- Braising
- Poaching, Steaming and Boiling
